Xcel Energy makes it easy to save
Xcel Energy is one of the best public utility companies in Colorado for this program which is called Third party gas transportation or third party gas supply. They make it very easy for their customers to save money and even advertise the program on their website. (edit: Xcel’s new page is https://gastransport.xcelenergy.com/PSCO) The third party gas transportation market has been available since the early 90s, and Xcel Energy has done a fantastic job making it accessible for commercial customers of any size.
Since becoming a SWiTCH customer won’t change any of your gas lines and your current utility company will continue to service and maintain your gas lines as they’ve always done, it’s surprising that every public utility company doesn’t make it as easy to save as Xcel Energy. .
Save anytime of year
If you find out that SWiTCH can lower your natural gas expenses by 15% tomorrow, then you can tell Xcel the same day that you’ll be signing up with our program. Some of the other utility companies in Colorado only give their customers a few weeks every year to sign up – this is their enrollment period. If you miss that window, you have to wait an entire year before you can start saving. There’s no time restrictions with Xcel Energy.
We have customers all over Colorado and are very familiar with all of the other public utility companies. Save without any investment
Xcel Energy is also great because they don’t charge their customers a fee to start saving. Some of the other public utility companies charge fees starting at $1500, but we’ve seen fees in Colorado as high as $25,000! For a small business that’ll save $1000/yr, a $1500 fee is a small investment that will deliver an ROI in less than 2 years and every year afterward.
Which Xcel Energy customers qualify?
Businesses and non-residential customers that average 10 therms of gas per day are able to save money as an Xcel Energy customer as long as you’ve been a customer for 12 months. To find your daily usage, just look on the left side of page 1 of any bill. If you don’t know how to read your bill, Xcel has a page that tells you how to read your bill here.
If your building is newly constructed, there’s a 12 month wait before you can start saving. Since Xcel Energy can’t earn a profit on the natural gas that flows to your business, we suspect the wait could be to ensure your gas lines are working optimally throughout higher demand time periods, like our Colorado winters.
How do you get started?
If we find savings for your business, Xcel Energy needs a written notice that you’ll be using a third party supplier 30 days before the first day of your next billing cycle. Don’t worry about getting your calendars out though – we’ll take care of that for you. It’s part of the service you can expect from SWiTCH Energy.
What about residential customers?
Currently, residential customers can’t sign up for the same type of savings with any public utility company. The infrastructure isn’t setup for each individual household to switch, but hopefully that will change in the future.
